It Takes a Village to Raise an Adult

We all know “it takes a village to raise a child,” but it also takes a village to raise an adult, or at least to get ourselves through adulthood.  And, yes, YOU get to assemble your life village.  So who is in your village?  Yes, family and friends, for sure, but also the lovely people that generously contribute their skills and presence to your human existence, while you contribute to their life village.  These people are your neighbors, your kids’ babysitters, obviously your hairstylist and barbers, your kids’ teachers, the carpool, the staff at Trader Joe’s (love you, Rachel!), the plumber, your trainer, your dog friends/friends with dogs, the electrician who appreciates your love of dimmer switches, a mechanic who thinks you brake too hard, the dentist, the mail carrier who has done your route for 6 years and hides your packages in the bushes, the guys at the meat counter who go in the back to get you the perfect cut, your religious/spiritual/yoga community---and, of course, YOUR THERAPIST.  You get to place this very important and possibly highly impactful person, your therapist, into your life village.  The question is, how?  The only answer here is THOUGHTFULLY.  Choose your therapist thoughtfully.  Listen to our interviews.  Consider them. Imagine yourself with this therapist or that one.  Take this seriously.  This is your village.
